The second sample is from an original folk song called "Country Day" -- Mac sound sample/IBM sound sample (619K). Third, a sample of an original jazz/pop composition called "In the Cold" -- Mac sound sample/IBM sound sample (102K).

Here's an HMSL music algorithm. It sends realtime MIDI data to channel 1. The code used is here. The executable (for Macs only) is in here. The range of notes is from C below middle C to C two octaves above middle C. The algorithm outputs 900 notes per minute in even rhythm. Only notes from the C-major scale are used. Given an initial random note, each next note may be either one or two scale degrees above or below the previous note. When the lowest or highest note is reached, the melody may hover a bit before changing direction.
